Male Wood Ducks have a red and yellow bill, dark red chest and rump. They have a purplish green head, orange feet. Red eyes, their sides are yellow and black with white stripes. Their wings are blue Its belly is white also. My animal lives in streams, marshes, lakes, and even rivers. Also ponds. The Wood Duck eats fruits, nuts and seeds. The scientific name for the Wood Duck is Aix Sponsa. Like a Mallard Duck, Wood Ducks can fly up to 55 miles per hour. Its wingspan is 28-39 inches. WOW! It is 19 inches in length. The eyes help the Wood Ducks see. Like all of us have in common we are all humans and we also have differences. The Wood Duck has some things in common with us like their eyes. Most ducks see shades of grey and black. But the Wood Duck can see color. Like humans. Their beak helps them eat. Even though we don't have beaks we eat food also. Their bill is like their mouth. Their webbed feet help the sit and glide throughout the water. Their wings help them fly. Tail feathers are handy for ducks. They help the ducks balance in the water. If the ducks didn't have them they would tip right over. Wood Ducks don't have to run on the water to take off like some ducks. They just are sitting and can take off. YAY!
